Titebond has long been a leader in the development of green adhesives for construction applications. Understandably, then, they are excited that Santa Luzia Mouldings – likewise, a leader in green materials for the building industry – has selected their construction adhesives for use in installing its environment-friendly baseboards, moldings and trims.

We all agree that wood makes for beautiful products. In fact, we at Santa Luzia made our products out of it for 60 years. But in 2002, concerned about the increasing number of trees used in construction – and the time it takes to regrow them – the Brazilian-based company embraced a greener approach to production. Instead of using trees, we began to transform recycled plastics including polystyrene (PS foam) and polyurethane (PU), into handsome pieces styled after exotic woods.

To grasp the impact Santa Luzia has had on the environment in Brazil – and, ultimately, the earth – consider the following statistics, cited on our company’s website:

“There are almost 60 thousand tons of PS foam and 335 thousand tons of polyurethane produced per year in Brazil. The amount of waste and pollution generated by these materials pushed Santa Luzia to begin using recycled PS foam and polyurethane as the basis for their products. In 2016, Santa Luzia Mouldings recycled 12 million pounds of PS foam, saving the equivalent of more than 87 thousand trees. The company also recycled 275 thousand pounds of polyurethane, or the equivalent of almost 21 thousand refrigerators.”

Santa Luzia currently is recommending three different Titebond products to enable quick and easy installation of their products without using nails. Titebond GREENchoice Professional Cove Base Adhesive quickly bonds to all common porous building materials; Titebond Painter’s Plus is a versatile siliconized acrylic caulk that is designed for both interior and exterior applications; and Titebond WeatherMaster Ultimate MP Sealant bonds to all porous and non-porous substrates and can also be used to seal moldings. All three products are VOC-compliant, in keeping with Santa Luzia’s and Titebond’s mutual commitment to environmental friendliness.
